The organisation that oversees advertising standards in the UK, the ASA, has banned an advert for a job agency, because it contains the dreaded phrase ‘is your boss a bit of a tyrant’, in German.
Apparently a number of people have complained that the harshness of the words and the tone of the language depicts Germans and Germany in too stereotypical a manner.
Apparently the ASA thought that the ad portrayed Germans as being ‘ overbearing and tyrannical’, and as such banned it on the grounds of good taste and decency !
Just as well the Germans have a decent sense of humour, even if the Brits apparently do not.
